Happily Laughing

I love laughing! Yes I know, you all do too. But I genuinely need laughter in my day to day life. It’s usually something simple or something sarcastic (yes, I know, sarcasm is the lowest form of wit, but is it?) I laugh at tv shows, I laugh at my cat, or Scott or we laugh at something together, I laugh at work. Generally it would be rare for me to not laugh at some point during the day.

I love life but I don’t take it too serious as it can be pretty heavy at times. I enjoy making people laugh and lightening there day. I am quick witted and do enjoy some quality banter with friends and work colleagues. I am never cruel with what I say, I push to the limits of the people I know, but I always make sure not to take it too far. My intent is always to make people smile or laugh or snort their drink out their nose! Because lets be honest, who doesn’t like a good laugh!

Those that know me well, take my sarcasm or humour and give it back to me too which is great, the ongoing banter is hilarious and never tires. Some people don’t get it and that’s fine, but we have fun and laugh till the cows come home. There are also times when funny things just happen and you laugh until you cry. There have been many, many, many funny moments with friends over the years. This is one that ALWAYS makes me laugh when I think of it:

My friend and I were carrying shopping bags, back to her sister’s house and we had to negotiate a small garden gate, but as we were overloaded she become unbalanced and sat on the fence which then broke and all you could see were her legs in the air and she was still holding the carrier bags. I laughed for hours….it was just too funny, I did help her eventually to get up, but oh my I was crying with laughter and this will forever stick in my head.

I am good at not taking myself too seriously and am happy to laugh at me, I am funny and weird and have big feet and am tall and have become happy with who I am and what I bring to the table! My wit is such a huge part of who I am and I will never change. So my advice to you is, embrace who you are and enjoy the laughter you bring to yourself and others each day. Oh and if your jokes/sarcasm/general chat is funny, then it’s ok to laugh at your own jokes etc!

As I’ve said before I do have a quick wit and am super sarcastic. But everything I do is in the name of fun and laughter. I’m not nasty with it and I do get to know people before I say anything, although the people I’m drawn too, I usually find are the people who enjoy having a laugh and like my sense of humour. Believe me, when I meet people that don’t have a sense of humour and are too serious, I struggle, life’s too short to not laugh.

My Grandma laughed a lot and she never took life seriously. I loved that about her. We used to laugh about silly things and she would tell me about going to the supermarket, she would be going round the aisles and if anyone looked miserable she would tell them to cheer up. She had a sunny outlook on life and wanted others to have the same. Sounds a bit like me, I want people to be happy and have fun with their lives.

Laughter is great for your soul, that what they say, it’s true, I definitely agree that my wellbeing is kept in check with a good dose of daily laughter. Laughter makes your body release endorphins which helps to counteract cortisol and adrenaline, it also reduces your blood pressure. I suffer from social anxiety, and I do find laughter helps me, if there is an awkward moment then I will use humour to deflect it. Think of Chandler in Friends!

Laughing helps to relax me, if I am laughing at something then nothing bad can be happening to me with my anxiety, it’s left me for that period of time, it brings me joy and can make me realise how tense or anxious I’ve been and helps me to get things into perspective. Sometimes a situation can be so intense or crazy there is nothing for it but to laugh. I equate a lot of happiness to the laughter I experience and the fun it brings, obviously not everything that makes me happy is funny, but if it makes me happy then laughter isn’t far behind.

Have a think, what has made you laugh today? It could have been something little or it may have been something big. Did you continue on into your day with a smile? Notice what you are laughing at this week, and bring the laughter, humour, fun and happiness into your day, spread the love of joy and don’t let others bring negativity into your laughter and happiness space.

Have a joyous, laughter filled week. Take care and look after you.

Love Emma

xx

  2. This post made me laugh this evening. I could just envision it all with your description of it. I am glad your friend is ok though. And she kept onto her shopping bags. I don’t think I would have managed that.
