It is summertime. Bliss. Think of the long days, warm weather, relaxing, as well as many days out here and there doing things you perhaps wouldn’t normally. Plus think of the lovely food and barbeques and catching up with people. What’s not to love?
When all goes to plan, great. We love our days out exploring, being outdoors in the sun, however, being in Britain, it will rain at some point. It always does! So when the rain arrives and it puts a dampener on all your outdoor plans and activities, what can you do. Well, here are six things you can do to have fun and look after you.
Embrace it. Oh well you had planned to go for a walk or a run but the rain came and you just don’t want to anymore. Buy why not? Instead of waiting for it to pass, as lets face it, this could take hours or days, just get out there and get wet, does it really matter as you can go for a shower when you get home and will get wet anyway. It’s not as though you need to worry about your clothes or hair as you are not wearing your best clothes or got your hair done for the occasion. So just open your door, get out there and have fun.
Watch and listen to it – it can be soothing hearing the rain falling. Close your eyes and open the window, use this as time to mediate on the noise it makes. If at night, it might help you fall asleep. Natural sounds apps are very popular, however the real thing is even better. Watch the rain and notice if it is pouring down or if it is drizzling. Perhaps the drops are slow and large or is it fast and heavy? Is it soaking into the ground or sitting on top? Is it dripping off the leaves onto the grass? How quickly before the water starts running down the street? Are there any birds you can see cleaning themselves in the puddle or anybody out walking in the rain? Don’t always think of rain as a negative, look outside and see all the different plants and flowers it has helped to grow.
Bring out your inner child. Play with your kids and build a fort or run around the house playing hide and seek. What about doing a movie marathon of all the films you loved as a child. Grab some snacks and have fun reminiscing. Board games are always good, well perhaps if you are the winner or a good loser. But seriously, who doesn’t love snakes and ladders or monopoly or snap. Make your favourite food from when you were little. You might discover you still love it but equally that your tastes have moved on and it’s awful. You won’t know until you try.
Binge watch a series. If you haven’t done this before then I would be surprised. This is a great rainy day activity. Curl up on the sofa and pick something that takes your fancy. There are so many tv shows available you will find something that interests you, maybe you have been saving something especially for a rainy day. Put comfy clothes on, get cosy and enjoy spending time with the remote.
At home spa day. Make it a day to pamper yourself. Treat yourself to an at home facial. Start by using a facial scrub to get rid of all the dead skin cells and dirt, the rinse off and put on a face mask. Sit back, relax and while waiting for the mask to do good, put some cucumber slices on your eye lids. Now take 10-15 minutes to lie down. Once the time is up, rinse the mask off and put some moisturiser. Why not give yourself a manicure and pedicure, make your nails look good, file them and add some polish. How often do you take time out to do this for you?
Look through your photos. How many photos do you take in a week or month? How often do you actually go through them and either delete the duplicates or print them off? Every photo you have tells a story, think about that moment in time when you took the picture, what were you thinking and feeling as you snapped? If it makes you smile and happy then print it off and pop it on your fridge or on your desk as a reminder. Bring some joy to your day by looking through them.
There are many, many things you can do indoors when it rains. Don’t let the weather ruin your day. If you have to change your plans because of the weather, think of it as an opportunity to do something different for yourself that you wouldn’t normally do.
Thank you for reading. Have a great week.
Take care and look after you.
Love Emma xx
