2024 is the year I wish to achieve………
Finish the sentence, it can be absolutely anything, in fact you could change it around and say ‘2024 will be the year I……’
Can you believe it is the last day of 2023? Another year is almost over and with the start of the year only hours away many of us are thinking about what we would like to do in 2024. You may wish to train to run a marathon or learn a language, get fit, eat healthier, lose weight, or perhaps your looking to save money so you can go on holiday or get a deposit together to buy a flat or house.
We do put pressure on ourselves to set goals at this time of the year and often not just one but a list. January whizzes by and we may or may not be doing well with these resolutions. As the year slowly passes we tend to drop them one by one through no fault of our own and by the end of year we end up having not achieved anything.
If you are currently thinking of resolutions or goals to set for 2024 here are 5 tips to help you achieve.
- Make sure you are setting the goals for the right reasons. Do you really want to run 5k or are you being pressurised into it by someone else? Just because your partner is keen and thinks it will be amazing to do, doesn’t mean it is what you want. You can be supportive of them and do what you can to help but kindly explain it isn’t your goal.
- Use ‘2024 is the year I wish to achieve…’ write it out in full to help you to focus on one or two things, rather than setting 10 goals that you will likely not achieve. Think about what you really want to do and put all your effort and focus into achieving this. Make 2024 the year where you do achieve your goal. Pick a goal that makes you excited and makes you want to do something each day for it.
- Now you have your resolution you can start to plan out how you will achieve it. It could be you have a full 12 months so split it down into 12 chunks and then from their you can split it into weekly or daily tasks to get you there. If you are up against a time frame such as training for a marathon that will take place in June, then ensure you start the year reading up on the best timetable to set for your training. It will likely take months to do and if you have never run before, then ensure you set yourself up for success and plan. Goals can be daunting particularly if you have no experience in what you are looking to achieve so chunk them down.
- Be kind to yourself. Don’t expect to achieve it all in a month and don’t be disappointed when you don’t achieve it in a month! Be patient with yourself and speak kindly if you suffer a setback. It doesn’t mean you should throw in the towel and give up. Instead, take a moment and reset. Just leave that day behind and pick up where you left off the next day.
- Most importantly make sure your goal is achievable for you. Becoming an astronaut in a year is highly unlikely so you will end up disappointed if you think you can do this. Just because your friends can do it, doesn’t mean you can or you should. Ensure your goals are challenging enough but not impossible.
Whether you are learning a new language or learning about the planets make 2024 the year you achieve your goals. Follow the steps above and you will get there. Always pick a goal that excites you and pushes you on.
Happy New Year and have an amazing 2024.
Look after you.
Love Emma xx
