The sun was out in full force yesterday and the sky had no clouds. Today it’s very much an autumn day, windy, cool and clouds a plenty, much like the previous few weeks. The leaves are mainly still green but they are on the turn, with hints of oranges and reds throughout.
Last weekend, I decided to transform my hair and go for autumnal colours to match the season. It was a complete change and I love my new look of coppers and reds.
Whilst waiting for my hair dyes to take hold, my hairdresser went to greet her next customer and led her to the sink to wash her hair. As the lady settled in, I overheard their conversation as I read a magazine, silently waiting.
The lady, who was in her mid 70’s was talking about her granddaughter going to university after the summer, how well she got on with her and what they like to do together. Just as the hairdresser was about to wash her hair, the lady mentioned the top of her right ear had just been pierced, so to be careful when washing her hair. She said her granddaughter was very impressed she got the piercing as it isn’t usually what grans do. As they were laughing about it the hairdresser mentioned about it being a good thing to do for a mid life crisis, but the lady said, ‘it’s not a mid life crisis, it’s a three quarter life crisis’.
I loved her attitude. She was brilliant and funny and wasn’t conforming to the norms of her age or gran status or what people would expect of her.
Is there something you would like to do, but don’t because it wouldn’t fit in with what is expected of you? Are you fearing the opinions of your family, friends or work colleagues? Are you having a mid life crisis or a three quarter life crisis and just want to mix it up and have some fun and rebel against yourself? If so, then buy the Ferrari (if you can afford it) or get the tattoo you’ve always wanted or move to your favourite place. Maybe all you want to do is change up your clothes and try a new style.
Do you know what you want to buy or do? We often wait until we hit a milestone in our life before we make a drastic change. For example a breakup, house move, job change or career change, perimenopause/menopause, death of a loved one, including pets. Are you currently experiencing a milestone or point in your life where you feel a change is needed or you just want to finally do what you have always wanted too regardless of anyone else?
Go for it. What are you waiting for? This could really be the start of something spectacular. It could lead to something amazing or give you a huge confidence boost making you feel great.
The lady at the hairdressers was so happy to have gone ahead and pierced the top of her ear, she finally did what she had wanted to do for a long time. You can feel like this too. How you feel is more important than worrying about what others will think. It is about your happiness and what makes you feel great.
If there are several things which could be seen as ‘out of character’ for you to do and you are a bit unsure, then start small and choose the least rebellious thing to do. What’s mad and crazy for one person might not be for another. Changing my hair colour is certainly not something drastic for me as I do it a lot, but for someone who has had the same colour for years, they may struggle to do anything different, worrying it will not be liked by them or others.
Only you can decide what is a small or large change or decision to make. You are in charge of your life and destiny, so don’t be afraid to go for it. Rebel against the norms you have created for yourself. This is about you and no one else. Have fun, enjoy and go wild!
Whether you are having a mid life crisis or a three-quarter life crisis, break free from the expectations and your comfort zone and bring out your inner rebel. Now is your time to do what you want and to show the world who you are in the best way possible.
Thank you for reading and look after you.
Love Emma xx
