Six Ideas To Enjoy Life In The Moment

If like me you are finding the years are whizzing by and you don’t really know how old you are because your actual age doesn’t reflect your inner age then what can we do to ensure we don’t miss out on life.

Now that we are in spring, it always get me thinking I should be embracing life more, enjoying the outdoors and every ounce of daylight possible as well as all the opportunities that present themselves. Here are 6 ideas for you to try, and enjoy your life in the now:

  1. Get outside – with spring having sprung, and april showers aplenty, grab a raincoat and go outdoors. Whether you are going for a walk around your neighbourhood or going for a woodland walk, or a gentle stroll by the sea, get outside and notice it all. Feel the breeze on your cheeks, breathe in the cool spring air, feel each footstep on the ground and admire the pretty flowers and trees as they begin to bloom. Touch the trees, feel the bark and how rough it is, notice the colour and the smell. Listen closely and hear the birds sing or your feet trample on the ground, or the car drive past or the plane in the sky or the dog barking. What can you hear? You’ll be amazed by what you discover on a simple walk.
  2. Put your devices down – how much of daily life are you missing out on by scrolling for hours on end? What could you be doing instead to enjoy your life? Are you using it as an excuse to pass time or do you really like to know what is going on in everyone else’s life? What is it you feel you are getting from scrolling that you are not getting from your real life. Why don’t you think about what you can do instead? What do you see when you are scrolling that you want to do or wish you could? Why not take steps to do it this spring to help you create the life you want.
  3. Plan what you want to do and do it – Don’t keep saying ‘I really want to do x but just don’t have the time’ or ‘I never have time to do x’. Instead just get planning and booking and do it. Maybe you are unsure where your time is going – then start noting down what you do with your time and after a few days or a week, you can start to see what you spend most of your time doing. Start scheduling time in your calendar and create a reminder for yourself so you get to do the things your want and not miss out. There is nothing wrong with sitting on the sofa and watching a movie, however, if you want to be doing something else, then plan it and do it.
  4. Forget about time – I don’t mean at work, keep to your times at work. But in your free time, go with the flow and enjoy what you are doing. Time always flies when you are having fun, there is nothing worse than checking your watch to keep to time, so if you have no deadline then really enjoy the time you are spending doing what you love. Time can really get away from you when you are in the flow of the moment. Embrace it.
  5. Cook with love and care – whether you cook from a recipe or make it up as you go, pay attention at each stage of the process, think about the taste, smell and how it looks when you come to plate it up. Do you feel proud of your achievement or take yourself for granted. When you begin to eat, for each mouthful, notice the flavours and the textures. Is this a dish you cook regularly or will you likely never cook it again?
  6. Follow nature – pay attention to the cycles of what is happening and go with it. In spring, bring in the new and embrace what is to come, plan things out and look ahead. In summer enjoy those plans and do all you want, taking advantage of the (hopefully) better weather. In Autumn start to shed the old and what no longer serves you and in winter, let go of the old and spend your time doing all you love outdoors if you can or indoors. Until spring rolls around again and the process starts again.

These are some ideas for you to think about this spring and help you to have the life you want, enjoying each moment as it happens, rather than feeling like time is running away and you don’t have the time to do anything.

Thank you for reading. Have a great week and look after you!

Love Emma xx
