Magical Mystery Tour

It’s the weekend or you have a day off, the weather is looking alright but you have no idea what you want to do. Your usual walks or activities are not appealing and part of you cant be bothered doing anything other than sitting on your sofa and watching tv.

You want to move and get out there, do something different, but you don’t know what and Google isn’t helping. So what do you do when you don’t know what to do? When your comfort zone isn’t appealing and you want to break free from the norm and have an adventure? You want some zing in your day and know when your head hits the pillow later you earned your sleep.

I read very recently about extreme day trips. This is where you hop on a plane and go and explore a city or place in one day. It sounds great! It does require planning to ensure you use your time to the max and get the best deal on plane tickets. I love the sound of this. Whilst it isn’t practical or suitable for everyone, it gets you doing something different, exploring somewhere new and fitting all this into one day. Plan it well and you can explore somewhere just as well as you could in a full weekend.

Whilst this is a brilliant idea and something I would love to get onboard with, exploring somewhere closer to home requires less planning and can be done on a whim. For example if you wake up on your day off and fancy going somewhere random, you can hop on a bus, train or take your car and get on your way.

There is no need to plan – make sure you pack a bag with all you need for the day such as appropriate clothing/jackets and food and water – if you don’t plan to buy anything whilst you are out.

The great thing is, you can go out for the whole day or half day. You decide where and what time it starts and ends. Think of all the fresh air you will be getting. You can do this with your partner, family or friends each choosing a direction or place to stop or you may decide to go solo and go in the direction you feel drawn too.

If you are heading off by car, you have the freedom to pick and choose where to stop and explore and when to keep going. It can be daunting for some people to get in the car and have no clue where you are going and if you prefer to have a destination on your sat nav then pop an unexplored village/town or city in and away you go. For others that are happy to you may wing it and drive at random taking a left or right as you wish. Or the inbetween would be to put a rough area in your sat nav and explore from there.

It is liberating not following a sat nav and seeing where the roads takes you. You might turn off when you see a road sign with a funny name or a place you’ve never heard of. You’d be surprised how many of those you come across. Getting off the motorways is the best way to explore. It can’t be helped at times, but away from the busyness of the daily traffic will help you get into the flow as you are not on a jam packed road.

You might drive to the furthest away point you wish to go and then explore everything on the way back, or explore as you go and see where you end up. You might be surprised at where you stop and what that area has to offer.

If you are going by bus or train, you will need to plan your destination so you can buy the appropriate ticket. But that doesn’t mean it will be a known adventure, you might be on unfamiliar routes to get there. Once you have arrived, explore by foot and spend as long as you like in the area. You can always hop on another train or bus and go to another destination. See what you can discover. Give it a go.

Some people are comfortable going with the flow and having an adventure with little plans, others however prefer to plan so they know what the outcome will be, so do what feels right for you. This is about having an adventure, enjoying yourself, getting outside and discovering places unfamiliar.

The next time you wake up and are unsure of what to do, grab your bag, fill it with what you need for the day and choose your own adventure, create your own magical mystery tour and see how your day unfolds.

Thank you for reading and enjoy your next day trip.

Have a great day and look after you.

Love Emma xx
