Good morning, can’t believe we are nearly half way through July. Where is the time going? It’s that time again for the A-Z of Aromatherapy and this month it’s the penultimate post of the series. I am looking at the letters W & X. Let’s take a look.
W
Worry – Are you a worrier or do you worry about something specific? From time to time we all worry, but if you feel it is becoming more of an everyday occurrence rather than occasionally you perhaps should speak with a friend, doctor or even therapist about it to ensure you get the correct treatment.
If it is generally manageable and you are looking to help calm yourself and reduce your worry try chamomile and/or lavender essential oil in a vaporiser. Add at least 5-10 drops altogether in 100ml – 200ml of water and let the vaporiser do its thing. It will not only make your room smell great, but will enable you to breathe the scent in deeply and help to relax and reduce your worrying thoughts. Have a massage with these oils as well and this will aide in your relaxation and help you to let go of your worries.
You can use frankincense essential oil if most of your worry stems from the past. I would suggest mixing this with lavender in the vaporiser.
Wrinkles – If you have mature skin, and have a wrinkle or two, or more, then use Frankincense in your everyday skincare regime. Add a drop to your usual facial moisturiser and massage into your face in a circular motion and this will help to stimulate the circulation and allow the moisturiser to be easily absorbed. Frankincense can help to reduce wrinkles and helps to slow new ones from forming. This essential oil restores tone to the skin, therefore it is a must for your beauty routine.
Neroli essential oil helps to stimulate the growth of new cells and is particularly good for dry and/or sensitive skin. Treat yourself to a home facial massage by mixing 5ml of a carrier oil such as jojoba or wheatgerm or a mix of both followed by one drop of frankincense and 1-2 drops of neroli. Mix and apply to your face going in slow circular motions until the oil is absorbed. Apply your usual moisturiser on top.
Wind – Do you suffer from a bloated windy stomach after eating or having over indulged? Then fennel essential oil can help. I would recommend mixing 4 drops of fennel with 1 drop of peppermint oil (which helps to aide digestion), followed by 10 ml of grapeseed oil then massage a few drops into the stomach area. Massage in a clockwise direction and be gentle. The act of massaging alone can help to relax the stomach muscles and help the windy bloating to dissipate with the essential oils helping to reduce the fullness and pain of the wind and soothe the stomach. Do not use fennel on children or those who are epileptic.
Warts – These can be treated by placing a drop of Tea tree or lemon essential oil neat on the affected area, do this by either dabbing with a cotton ball or adding a drop to a plaster. I would recommend using tea tree oil in the first instance. Place a plaster over the affected area and leave, repeating daily until the wart disappears.
Wounds – Only treat small cuts or grazes, if you have a wound that requires stitching then please go and seek medical help in the first instance. Lavender essential oil is the best to use. Make sure the area is clean and dry. Place a drop of lavender onto the affected area using a clean cotton pad or if you are going to cover with a dressing add the drop to the plaster and place over the wound. Repeat daily until the would has healed.
X
Sadly there is nothing I can find to do with aromatherapy that begins with an X.
Please note: never ingest essential oils, use them internally or use them undiluted on your skin. If you are epileptic or pregnant, there are some oils you should avoid entirely, always check first. If you suffer an allergic reaction please discontinue use. Always proceed with caution and if in doubt, do not use or seek advice in the first instance. Always buy and use 100% pure essential oils, there are many imitations out there so please be aware.
I hope you have enjoyed reading this months A-Z series. Join me next month for the last in the series, when I’ll be looking at the letters Y & Z.
Thank you for reading. Have a great week and look after you!
Love Emma xx
