Are you someone who tries the latest trends in wellness or are you late to the party and get on board once you have seen the results in others?
There are many trends out there and many just a passing phase whilst some will stick around long term. It can be hard knowing what to spend time and money on and what to avoid. Too many choices and too many potential issues.
Whether you are targeting your sleep patterns, your gut health or your fitness there will always be hundreds if not thousands of things you can do, try or buy to help.
But one thing you really need to think about is personalising it to suit you, your body and your needs. There is no point focusing on your sleep just because your partner or friend is, if that isn’t an area you need to improve upon. Jumping on the bandwagon of supplements for gut health, when you feel it is your fitness that is letting you down will not help. What can you do and where do you start?
You need to spend some time, before you spend any money, finding out what areas you should be focusing on. There are many factors to consider, such as age, sex, general health and fitness, body shape etc. So don’t just jump into something, instead, spend time working things out for you and what you need.
Perhaps for a period of 2 weeks to a month you take note of everything you eat, how you feel afterwards, what your gut health is like, if you feel sluggish or raring to go in the morning, how your mental health is each day or if it changes much during the month, your fitness routine, if you feel it is working. Check your sleeping patterns – are you sleeping well or do you wake up throughout the night? There are so many areas to think about, forgive yourself for not being aware of everything in this moment. It will take time to work it out.
If you have a suspicion one area of your wellbeing is off kilter, then you may wish to focus on that, spend the time building up a picture of what it is truly like for you on a day to day basis.
It will take time to do, but it will be worth it as you will be able to focus on the true areas you need or want to work on. You never know, you may discover something you hadn’t considered was causing any issues. More often than not, the areas will be linked. For example, if your gut health is off, you may find, your diet isn’t great, or you are missing certain vitamins from your food and then you don’t have the energy to exercise and find you are not sleeping properly.
Taking care of one part, can have a knock on effect with the other parts, so it is really important to figure out which areas are of concern and could be causing problems elsewhere.
You may wish to speak with your doctor, and it will bode well going with notes you have taken over a period of time, so you can share with them what has been happening.
If you regularly go to the gym, have a fitness partner or a personal trainer, get their thoughts on what you are doing and if there is anything you need to do to improve if fitness is your chosen area. Even if it isn’t ask them for exercises that can help with gut health, or what time of day to exercise if sleep is causing you issues. Take the whole picture into account.
Build the picture for you and take notes, you may be surprised by the results and find you need to work on a specific area you felt was ok or hadn’t even considered being an issue.
Once you have all the information, you can begin to choose the wellness supplements, activities and programme to suit your needs. Everyone is different, so make sure you do the right thing for you and your body.
Make sure you do consult your doctor before you start taking any new supplements that could interfere with any medication you are taking. You need to be holistic in your approach and factor in everything. But once you do and understand what your body needs, you can then work with it to be healthier, happier and feel great!
Thank you for reading, have a great week and look after you.
