Welcome to my new monthly series The A-Z of Positivity. As I have made 2026 my year of positivity, I thought doing a new series on this blog would be ideal.
We could all do with being more positive throughout our day and life. It is too easy to go into a negativity spiral dwelling in all the things going wrong in our day to day lives. There are some people who love nothing more than being in the negative space and will quite happily take you with them, leaving you feeling unhappy, dwelling on the negatives and feeling like life is awful. None of us like being in that space (well, perhaps some do), so let’s begin this journey today and see where positivity can take us not only through the alphabet but also through the year.
A
Accomplish/Achieve – There is nothing better than the feelings you get when you accomplish a goal or dream. You had to believe in yourself and push yourself, but you did it. Whether you started off positive or were doubting yourself throughout, you can now hold your head high and day ‘I did it’. What can be more positive than that. When you achieve something it puts you in a positive mindset and spurs you onto the next goal.
Amazing – you are amazing and don’t ever forget it! Whatever you do in life and wherever it takes you always remember you are amazing and can do anything.
Affirmations – This is exactly what you need to help banish those negative thoughts that pop into your head. An affirmation is a positive phrase or statement we repeat to ourselves that can be used to challenge any negative thinking you have. If work is making you feel anxious as you have an overwhelming amount of tasks to do, you might start each day saying to yourself “I can tackle any challenge work gives me with confidence”. You might not be feeling confident but its about affirming the positive in your mind so you start to believe you are.
Active – Being active can help us be more positive, going for a short walk can really help you to quash negative thoughts. It releases feel good endorphins helping to reduce stress and anxiety. Any kind of activity, whether you are at the gym, swimming or running can help you to feel good and this in turn will help to boost your positivity. Give it a go. Rate your positivity before you do an activity and then afterwards.
Adventure – Life is an adventure. It can be a rollercoaster of events, journeys and emotions. No two lives are ever the same. So embrace what life gives you and treat it all like an adventure. No one can tell you how your future is going to turn out but if you embrace it, enjoying the good times and knowing the bad times will pass your outlook will be more as you accept life wont always be sunshine and roses. We all have to keep moving forward each day and take it as it comes. Be excited for the day ahead, embrace the feelings you have in the moment. Life happens and each day is a new start. Remember Carpe Diem – seize the day – what are you waiting for? Get your day going and have an adventure.
Attitude – Your attitude can truly affect your mental health and outlook on life. Look at the people you know and think of what they say and the conversations you have with them. Are they positive people or negative people, in the sense of their attitude? Negativity breeds negativity. If you are with someone and they never have anything good or positive to say, what impact does that have on you? It is too easy to get sucked into a negativity spiral. So instead think and act positively. I know this is difficult at times, but take any negative comments or thoughts and turn them around. Think of the positives you have in your life, in fact, at the end of each day think of three positive things you can take from the day. It can be anything such as “I cooked a lovely meal today following a new recipe” or “I went outside for a walk” or “I spoke with Sally today and we agreed to meet up next week”. Check your attitude regularly and knock out the negativity.
I hope you’ve enjoyed this first post in the A-Z of Positivity series. By becoming aware of the everyday positives in your life you will start to recognise them more often. This will have a positive impact on your attitude, mindset and outlook on life. Bring on the positivity!
Have a positive week and look after you.
Love Emma xx
