The A – Z of Positivity – B

Welcome to the second instalment of my new monthly series The A-Z of Positivity. Today we are looking at the letter B.

We could all do with being more positive throughout our day and life. It is too easy to go into a negativity spiral dwelling on all the things going wrong in our day to day lives. There are some people who love nothing more than being in the pessimistic space and will quite happily take you with them, leaving you feeling unhappy, dwelling on the negatives and feeling like life is gloomy. None of us like being in their (well, perhaps some do), so let’s continue our journey today and see where positivity can take us, not only through the alphabet but also through the year.

B

Besties – In times of need, when you need a laugh or if you want to get something off your chest, spending time with your best friends can make all the difference. They know you well, inside and out, they have your back and can make you feel better instantly whether with a joke, a memory or a funny story. Whenever you need a pick me up – get in touch with them – message, voice note, call and arrange a get together. These are your people and they will do what they can to bring you happiness and light. These positive people are what you need in life so keep them close as they will help you keep reaching for the positivity.

Be – Just be. Instead of looking towards the future or staring into the past, just be in this moment. For two minutes, I challenge you to sit still and quiet alone with your thoughts. Notice the thoughts, but don’t engage with them, instead picture them floating away on a cloud. Let your mind enjoy the here and now and not be thinking of dinner or how much work there is to do. Notice how you feel after the two minutes is up. Calmer? Do you think it is something you could do often? Try to do this regularly to help you be more in the moment and feel positive about your life.

Begin – We are all so good at putting things off rather than starting. If there are many things to do we will tend to do the easiest things first, which makes sense, this gives us a sense of achievement. But why not do the hardest thing first to get it out of the way. I know what puts you off is the time it takes to do or the complicated nature of it, but do it first. Then you can do the easier things after. Whilst you may still be thinking ‘ugh it is too hard’ just begin. That is often the hardest part, by getting things moving, even if it is just to plan things out, will feel like a weight off your shoulders and you will feel positive for doing it once complete. This week at work to start off on a positive, I urge you to look at your to do list and start with the hardest task. Once complete notice how you feel. Did it really take as long as you thought it would?

Believe – believe in you. You can do anything. There is very little you can’t do if you set your mind to it. It may take an hour or it may take a lifetime but believing in yourself is quite often the hardest battle to overcome. What is stopping you? If a friend asked you for advice about setting up a business and you knew they could succeed, what advice would you give them? Why not record yourself giving the advice then play it back for yourself. Heed your own advice. You can do it! Stick post it notes around your house so you see these words. Write in the steamed mirror ‘I can do this’. If you still don’t believe you can, what is making you think like this? Ask yourself why and then ask again, is it truly what you want to do? Be your own positive cheerleader. Think of a wee cheerleader, sitting on your shoulder telling you each day you can do it. Visualise them shaking their pom poms and cheering you on.

Brave – There are many times in our life where we have to be brave; going to the dentist, getting an injection, walking into a room alone these can all be challenging. However, each one usually results in a positive. Going to the dentist – for a check up or getting the tooth removed that has been causing you problems, feeling better after an injection, walking into a room of strangers and realising it wasn’t all bad. These are all positives. We can be brave and still scared but as long as the positives out weigh the negatives then what are you waiting for? Only good can come from it, so crack on and go for it. Reap the benefits and enjoy. Pull on your big pants and get on with it.

There are many positives in our day to day lives. Hopefully the above can help you see them or help you to move forward with some positivity. This will have a positive impact on your attitude, mindset and outlook on life. Bring on the positivity!

I hope you’ve enjoyed the letter B in this month’s A-Z of Positivity series.

Have a positive week and look after you.

Love Emma xx
