The A – Z of Positivity – D

Welcome to the next instalment of my monthly series The A – Z of Positivity. Today we are looking at the letter D so let’s continue our journey and see where positivity can take us.

D

Decision – We make many decisions throughout our day. More often than not they are simple ones such as, what to eat for breakfast, what to wear and we rarely give them much thought. But for those bigger important decisions that take time, we have to factor in what makes us happy and aim for a positive outcome. At the heart of every (big) decision you make, think about the path you wish to choose and if it will lead to a positive outcome for you. Sometimes you have to put yourself first and do what you want to do.

Dreams – What dreams do you have? Do you want to open a little bakery? Or get your dog walking business going? Perhaps you want to build your dream house. Our dreams can be what keeps us going and what we are striving for. They are filled with positivity and joy. They may feel out of reach, but everything is achievable, this is where positivity really kicks in. But don’t forget to be realistic. By taking small steps and doing things at a good pace, you will get there. A dream you have now may seem impossible, but with a positive attitude and a focus on the end result, will help you pursue your dreams. Positivity may wane if things get tough, but take a deep breath, and know you will get there.

Daffodils – I find these flowers to be the happiest of all. They radiate happiness, positivity and warmth. When you look at them, you can’t help but smile. When you see them you know spring is here and the darkness is retreating . A positive flower that makes you smile. Other flowers, may have the same affect on you. Whenever you see a daffodil, smile and bring that smile to someone else to brighten their day and spread happiness and positivity wherever you go.

Digital Detox – We could all do with being on our screens less. The persistent need to doom scroll, looking at the so called perfect lives of other people is insane. We get sucked into a negative thought pattern about our own live. Why do we feel the need to do this? Think about taking a break and bringing positivity into your life by doing so. Put your phone down. Think also about your posture and improving this by not rounding forward, instead, sit up straight, hold your neck up and look around you. Your body will thank you for it. How could you use this time positively? Go our for a walk, play with your kids or pets, go to the beach. If you find you are easily sucked into scrolling but need to do it, then limit yourself, this will give you the satisfaction you need to check as well as free up time to do something positive instead.

Do – We can sit for hours saying we need to do this or we should do that but we don’t take action and nothing changes and we are disappointed. So make today, the day you make changes. Go and do something you know will make you feel good. Bring the positivity into your life by take action. Negativity is easy and staying in that cycle can be hard to break, being positive is a challenge. Reach for it. It isn’t going to come to you, you have to make the changes you want and see what happens.

Dance – like no one is watching and you will not be able to stop yourself from feeling great.

Donate – Take any clothes you no longer wear and are in good condition to a charity shop. Why keep it if you know you will never wear it again? It will feel good knowing you are giving someone an opportunity to get the wear out of it. It is a positive action to take. Your clothes will go to a new home and be loved.

Dare – Being daring invites positivity as it takes you out of your comfort zone and pushes you a little or a lot. When you choose a small act of courage such as trying a new yoga pose, your pushing yourself to explore and push your capabilities. Even this small change can lift your mood and make you feel proud, energised, positive. Being daring isn’t about being reckless or high risk such as bungee jumping it is about pushing yourself to explore, evolve and be open to the new, giving you a positive outlook as you are not afraid to step away from the familiar.

Dog – if you have one, you can’t help but feel positive when you see their reaction upon your return. They love you unconditionally and can lift your mood when you need it most. Pets bring joy, love, positivity and happiness into our lives.

There are many positives woven into our everyday lives. Being positive isn’t about being sickly annoying and wearing rose tinted glasses. It is about noticing and working with what you have and feel, and working to give you a better mindset, brighten your outlook, and bring more positivity into your world.

Thank you for reading.

Have a positive week and look after you.

Love Emma xx
