Have you ever had a moment in your life when you inwardly say I wish I could do this over and over? Or that you could imprint the image in your head forever? There are times in our lives when this would be obvious such as on your wedding day (amazing), holding your baby after giving birth and all the magical moments that life brings us.
But what about the random moments, you know, the ones that if someone else saw it, they would just think it was a normal day and nothing special. For example, when I was a student and worked in my local supermarket, I had a brilliant time. I worked with lots of other students and in my department, we got on so well and all had a good laugh throughout our days/evening together. Our nights out were filled with laughter, drinks, shots and just fun, we were all out for a good time and that is what we had. One of the nights out, about 12 of us ended up back at one of my colleagues house, we were totally chilled, having a few drinks, and just chatting.
We got to the point where we were all merry and someone said that every time they ate a banana they thought of the code that went through the checkout, we then proceeded to go through as many fruit and veg as we could remember and recite the codes! This may seem odd, as well as a little sad ๐, but these guys were my supermarket family and that moment to me, was a photo I wish I could have taken (who knows there may be photos of that night out there!). This was a moment in time that I wish I could sit through again. It was just us all being us on a night out. Fantastic memory!
Work although great and enabled me to buy things, wasn’t a ‘real’ life job, it was my student job, don’t get me wrong, we respected everyone that worked there. We had fun at work, we took it seriously as needed to be, but to be truthful, in the evenings, we would be laughing and joking. It was pure fun.
Now that I’m older and wiser ๐ I can see the true value in that job, it taught me to work great in a team, work with so many kinds of people, be kind and courteous to customers, find a job you love so you have fun, working late shifts can be good, early shifts not so much ๐ It taught me that working my ass off over the summer allowed me to go on holiday or earn money to spend on clothes or shoes or drinks! It taught me that sometimes white lies are alright….
Customer: Do you have any of X Product through the back
Me: Let me check for you…. goes through the back, chats to a colleague, give each other a hug as we haven’t chatted for at least a few hours, faff about for a moment or two and then go back to the customer… Really sorry sir, we don’t seem to have any in stock, but it will be in tomorrow.
Please note though, we only did this if we knew there was none left in stock or if it was just in an awkward place to get too. So please bear this in mind if you ever ask someone to check through the back!
Anyway, this has been a wee trip down memory lane, loved it and I could go on for days with the stories I have from working there! Maybe one day I’ll do a post on it!
There are many, many moments in my life that I wish I could capture and replay. But what could be the significance of those random memories coming to the forefront of my mind at this point in time. Well I think, I had so much going on in my mind that day what with work, house and life in general, my brain took me to a simple time in my life when I was pretty much carefree and laughed a lot!
Think of all the memories that come up for you this week and take a moment to think about why they may suddenly appear. What triggered it? What emotions or thoughts come up for you? What stories could you tell around that memory?
Thank you for reading and have a wonderful week! ๐

Another great read, Emma. Reminds me of being a travel agent for years, I keep seeing airline 3 letter codes on car number plates!
