The A-Z of Wellbeing – D

Hello, hope you have all had a great week. Welcome to the fourth installment of my A-Z of wellbeing. In this post we are going to look at a number of things associated with looking after you which begin with the letter D. There are many, many words I could have chosen, so this list is by no means exhaustive.

Decisions – The decisions we make in any part of our life can impact our wellbeing. But follow your own heart/head or gut, whichever you know, knows the true you. Follow that instinct and do what is right for you.

Deserve – We are all deserving people. That promotion you got, you earned it. That house you just bought, you worked hard for. Never feel guilty for what you achieve. Looking at it another way, you deserve some time for you. If you are constantly running after your family or working every hour, take time for you. Book some time off, I know that may seem luxurious but why not spend a day doing the things you love. Ok, so if this isn’t possible, start with an hour. Tell your family this hour is pure you and you want no interruptions. Do what you want, it may just be vegging on the sofa watching your favourite TV show or having a bath reading your favourite magazine. We all deserve some me time.

Diet – I’m not talking about the cut things out or eat one thing only fad diets. I’m meaning your overall diet. Eat in moderation and enjoy it. Give your body the nutrients and vitamins it needs by eating plenty of fresh fruit and lots of veg and eat good quality food if you can. Eat the rainbow as they say. We all crave things from time to time, whether it be a chocolate bar or that huge slice of cake. Don’t deny yourself anything as this leads to negative feelings about yourself. Instead just try to be a bit more mindful of what you are putting in your mouth.

Different – I’ve said this many a time, we are all different. This is important. Be who you are. It’s hard work trying to be someone else. Plus, those that love you, want you to be you. Who cares if you aren’t into the same things as your friends or wear the coolest clothes. Embrace those differences, wear the odd socks, dye your hair to resemble a rainbow, go out in what you love. Remember those that don’t like it are the ones that have the issue, they are usually holding back themselves. Be the role model you would have wanted for yourself when you were a child or a young adult. You never know who is looking up to you, and you might just be what they need to be themselves.

Do it – What are you waiting for. Do it. Why are you putting off what you want to do? Time? Money? Uncertainty? Now is the time to take that chance. It may be the best thing you’ve ever done. “But how?” I hear you cry. Well, write down what you want to do, then create a list of everything you can think of that you need to do in order to get there. Don’t worry, it doesn’t have to be a complete list. You can add to it later. Then take each point in turn and break it into smaller chunks. Then go through each point until you get there. Start today. The smallest thing will get you one step closer. You’ll thank yourself for starting today.

Dreams – What dreams do you have? Do you want to open a little bakery? Or get your dog walking business going? Perhaps you want to build your dream house. Our dreams can be what keeps us going and what we are striving for. They often feel out of reach, but everything is achievable. Break it down into small tasks as above, this will help you to get closer to the future you want. By taking small steps and doing things daily you will get there. Remember to check in with yourself from time to time about your dream, sometimes things change and thats ok. Amend your steps and keep pushing forward. It is your life and your dreams are important. Never give up on your dreams, no matter how ridiculous you think they are. You will get there, believe in you and believe in what you want. And as above – Do it!

I hope you have enjoyed reading this post. As I said at the start, it isn’t a comprehensive list – there are so many more words I could have chosen. Have a think, I’m sure you can come up with other words that resonate with you.

Take care, have a great week and look after you.

Love Emma xx
