Enjoy A Solo Day

Do you work in an office or work from home but speak with people non stop? Do you live with your partner, kids, pets and are craving some time alone and looking for peace and quiet? Whilst this might feel indulgent, it can be a great way to let go of everything and give yourself a day of self care.

So what can you do when you want to get away from everyone and spend the day by yourself? Below are some ideas for you to try. You might wish to have a leisurely day and do one or two items from the list or you might want to make the most of the day and be up at sunrise and work your way through as many as you want until sunset.

  1. Watch TV – Now is your time to binge watch the tv show you have been waiting to watch, get comfy on the sofa and grab some snacks and enjoy losing yourself in the story.
  2. Massage – treat yourself to a lovely relaxing massage. If you can’t be bothered leaving your house, have a look for a mobile therapist and get them to come to your house. Think of how relaxed you will be without even having to leave your house.
  3. Go for a long walk – whether it is one of your usual walks or a new, take a rucksack and pack some supplies so you can stop and have a picnic as you go. Take in the surroundings and make a note of all you see and hear as you walk.
  4. Food Tour – you can book a food tour in a city near you, however, do it yourself, have a look online and see what deli’s or bakery’s or restaurants you like and go in and buy something you won’t get elsewhere, eat them as you go or take them to a park and have a picnic or take them home for a home picnic.
  5. Go to the cinema – pick a movie you want to see and go. Get your popcorn or pic ‘n’ mix and large drink and sit back, relax and relish in the moment.
  6. Go Shopping – have a Pretty Women moment and go into the shops you love and treat yourself or just spend the day trying on clothes, you don’t need to buy. Go to a charity shop and pick up a bargain, you will be amazed at what you can find.
  7. Start your day with a sunrise – set your alarm and either watch it from your window or take yourself to a great viewpoint and sit and savour the beautiful moment.
  8. Go to the beach – grab your beach gear and go, whether you are paddling or swimming or lying on a towel soaking up the sun, breathe in deep and appreciate the moment. Don’t forget the sunscreen.
  9. Choose a recipe and cook yourself a delicious meal – take your time and put love into your cooking. Plate up like you are in a restaurant, use your fancy dishes, pour yourself a glass of your favourite wine and tuck in.
  10. Go on an adventure – put your trainers on, grab your things and take yourself off on an adventure. You decide where it starts and ends.
  11. Read a book – spend the day reading a book, you could start on the sofa, move to the garden, go to a coffee shop and have a meal at a restaurant all whilst reading your book.
  12. Make plans for your future – plan out holidays, self development, what you want to achieve over the coming months. Make the plans bright and colourful and put it on your fridge or mirror so you can see it each day.
  13. Go to a coffee shop and order your favourite drink – buy the indulgent hot chocolate with the cream and marshmallows. Savour each sip and watch the world go by.
  14. Go see a show or play – take a look and see what is available today/tonight and book your ticket. You might wish to choose something you wouldn’t normally watch. Have fun and make sure you grab an ice cream at the interval.
  15. Take yourself away to a hotel – book a hotel nearby or one you have always wanted to go and get away from the usual day and find yourself in a new setting. Enjoy using the facilities at the hotel, book a massage or use the pool or have the best dish from the menu. You could order room service too if you really want to be on your own.
  16. Go to a botanical gardens – walking around a botanical garden is truly relaxing, looking at all the different plants from around the world, some you’ll know and some you will never have heard of, but the colours and shapes are fascinating. You may learn something as you walk around. Buy yourself some flowers or plants on the way home.
  17. Walk in the woods – pay attention to all the trees and the birds and walk in wonder. Notice the crunch of twigs beneath your feet and the feel of the tree bark and breathe in the fresh air.
  18. Mini golf – there is always a mini golf or crazy golf course near you. Take your time completing the course and try to navigate the obstacles in as few shots as you can.
  19. Star gaze – grab your binoculars or telescope and get outside away from light pollution and take a look at the dark night sky and see what stars or planets you can spot. Look at the moon and notice all the craters. What else can you see?
  20. Get your hair done – ask them to style your hair or do a French pleat or put your hair up in a different style.
  21. Create your own podcast – No need to go out an buy fancy equipment, record yourself on your phone and see how you get on, talk about something you know a lot about and press record. Who knows where it will take you, Even if you have no desire to actually publish it.
  22. Wear your favourite clothes – put on your favourite clothes and feel great.
  23. Go to a local bookstore – browse all the books, sit and read – many have coffee shops so you could spend the day.
  24. Sort out your wardrobe – give your wardrobe an overhaul. Try on all your clothes and if they don’t fit or you haven’t worn in the last 12 months, then either take it to a charity shop or sell it online. Make space in your wardrobe for some new clothes, or wear the clothes you have forgotten about.

Whilst you may relish being on your own for the day, it can be difficult if you are used to being with other people or even prefer it. So be kind to yourself, you don’t need to jump right in and sit having a coffee reading your book, if you would rather be there with your friends. Instead opt for some of the at home tasks or those where you won’t usually be chatting to people such as a massage or going to the cinema. Give it a go – you can always try a few hours to start you off and see how you get on.

Having a day to yourself can be a brilliant experience and give you a reset if you feel you have been overwhelmed by people and being ‘on’ all the time. Enjoy it, journal it and then plan another solo day.

Thank you for reading, have a great week and look after you.

Love Emma xx
