Summer Outdoors

We are now in summer – whooo hooo! Let’s all smile and jump around, for summer is finally here. Whilst many of us will be working, with the days now longer, we have plenty of time to get outdoors and enjoy the good weather. There are many things we can do, but here are 13 ideas to help you get started and enjoy the summer and feel good.

  1. Get outside and enjoy the warm weather. Just go, take a deep breath and enjoy the time you are outside. Feel how freeing it is to not be wearing a jacket or hat. Feel the warmth on your skin and the breeze in your hair. Being outside will do wonders for your wellbeing.
  2. Do the outside jobs or projects you have been putting off. What are you waiting for? Now is the time to get the fence painted or the shed tided out or even the garden planted so it is looking good. Often it takes longer to prep than to actually do the task itself. Think of how good it will look once complete.
  3. Go on the long walk or cycle you always talk about. Pick a day and go. Pack a rucksack take what you need such as a picnic, plan your route and get your shoes on and go.
  4. Sit outside in your garden and enjoy. How often do you get to sit outside and relax? Make sure you have sunscreen on and a hat if needed and relax. You can sit with an ice cold drink and enjoy your surroundings. Listen to the birds and the local surroundings.
  5. Grab your book and read whilst sitting in your garden or in a park or on a bench somewhere scenic. A great way to enjoy the good weather and relax. Is there a book you have been saving for a sunny day? Now is the time to crack that spine and get stuck in. Even if you can only give 30 minutes to an hour. Do it, sit outside and enjoy your book. It gives you a small bit of calm each day. This might be your lunch hour, or a peaceful time after the kids have gone to bed.
  6. Go explore somewhere new. Is there somewhere on the coast you want to explore or a place of interest you want to see. Then plan a way to get there, pack a bag for the day and have a lovely time.
  7. Try geocaching. This is essentially a treasure hunt. Geocaches are hidden containers that you find using a set of coordinates. In it you will find a book to jot down the time and date you found it as well as a treasure for you to take, and replace with a treasure of your own.
  8. Have a BBQ and invite your friends and neighbours. What better way to celebrate summertime than to have a BBQ. Get the food you want, invite your friends, family and neighbours and have a good time. You could get some outdoor games and play, such as giant Jenga.
  9. Get up really early and watch the sunrise. Now you would have to get up pretty early to do this. But think how magical it will be to be the only person watching. Ask your friend or partner to join you, and make it an event, do it the same day each year, or why not make it extra special and do it on the longest day of the year.
  10. Move your exercise to outdoors. If you usually do an online class, can you do this outside or if you do a regular yoga practice, then grab your mat and take it outside. If you are doing this in the early morning, enjoy the peace and tranquillity. If you do strength training at home, could you take them outdoors and work out? There are many options for you to work out outdoors, give it a go.
  11. Have your first cuppa outdoors. Get a mug of tea, coffee or a glass of juice and sit outside and breathe deep. Think of nothing else but the enjoyment of your first cup of the day. Allow your day to start calm before the rush begins.
  12. Go camping. Pitch a tent in your own garden or at a campsite. After spending all day outdoors, what better way to finish the day then by spending the night camping outdoors. Have a campfire and get marshmallows to toast and make hot chocolate.
  13. Try something new. Now is the time for you to try an outdoor activity you have never done before. Such as canoeing, kayaking, hillwalking, paddleboarding or even flying a kite at the beach. You never know you may love it.

I am sure there are plenty of things you can think of to do during the summer to get the most of the warmer weather.

Thanks for reading, have a great week and most importantly, look after you.

Love Emma xx

Aww I love that you feed the birds, it’s a lovely thing to do and then watch them as they feed. Nature journaling sounds a great past time. Great to be out and about with your dog too. Have a great summer xx
