Welcome to the next instalment of my monthly series The A – Z of Positivity. Today we are looking at the letter I.
I
I – me, you. Think of yourself as a positivity champion. You are the champion of yourself and the positive things happening in your life right now. You have the ability to change things if they are not working for you, get out of your comfort zone to find a new challenge and to bring positivity into everything you do. When things are tough and it is hard to see any light at the end of the tunnel, don’t give up hope. Use hope to steer you and try to find a tiny slither of positivity in your situation. For example, you gave comfort to another or you got out of bed for the first time in a while. There are many positives to find in your day. Try to stop and pay attention to them. Sometimes life is hard, but there will always be a fragment of positivity to hold onto.
Imperfection – We all have imperfections and we are all unique. Instead of seeing this as a failure, celebrate your imperfections. Your imperfections tell a story of who you are and the journey you are on. Embrace them, you are an amazing person. See imperfections as positive, without them, we would all be the same.
Inspiration – What or who inspires you? Where do you take inspiration from? Is it someone who has the career you aspire to have? Watching them grow in their role inspires you to get your dream job or to rise to the challenge to work hard. Or are you an artist and inspired by nature and landscapes which are reflected in your work? Inspiration is different for everyone. Think about what truly inspires you. Then use this to move forward and live your best life.
Impact – What positive impact have you had on your family, friends, career, your community? We all make an impact whether we realise it or not. How you act and indeed react matters. Did you have a meeting at work where you had to explain why you are moving in a certain direction and it landed well? Now the team are following your lead and productivity has increased. Or perhaps you gave a talk at your local community group on a subject you are passionate about and now people are volunteering to help or what to know more. Think about your impact on the planet. It might feel as though you are small and insignificant but something as small as picking up a discarded coffee cup or empty food wrapper from your local park or woods may help save a bird or small animal from harm. Every so often take a moment to stop and pay attention to what you are doing and ask yourself ‘What is the impact?’
Improve – This word may seem like a negative, however, if you are improving yourself or a situation, it can only ever be positive. Getting feedback can be really awkward and difficult to hear. However, it gives you the opportunity to develop and enhance what you are doing. Jobs, ideas, plans, your life can always be improved by taking action. Whether you want to know more about a topic or get the latest ideas to stay at the top of your game, there is always room for improvement. And it doesn’t have to be big tasks or projects. For example, you might want to improve how you chop an onion or do your hair. It can be that simple.
Invite – Give yourself an invitation to positivity. Invite yourself to be the positive person in a room. Not to be rosy and sunshine but to find the positives in all we do and all that is happening around us. Why not write a positivity journal and come up with three positives from your day? Or come up with alternatives if your bank account isn’t as healthy as you want it to be and the day trip you planned to take your kids on is now out of reach. What can you do instead with the resources you have? For example, pack a picnic and go for an exploration walk in the woods. Create a treasure hunt map for the garden and let them go searching. Get your children to draw a picture of the favourite part of the day, inviting them to notice the positives in what they did. Invite yourself to see the positivity that surrounds us daily and you never know what you might notice.
Thank you for reading. As you can see there are many positives woven into our everyday lives with the words we use. Being positive is about noticing what you have and what you feel. This in turn, gives you a better mindset, brightens your outlook, and brings more joy into your world.
Join me next month when I will be looking at the letter J in the A – Z of Positivity series.
Have a lovely week, look after you and see what positivity you can bring into your life this week.
Love Emma xx
