This month I’m looking at the letter Q as part of my A-Z of Wellbeing series. A tricky letter or so I thought so why not grab a cuppa, settle in and enjoy.
Quiet – Shhh! How often do you sit and enjoy the peace and quiet? Do you enjoy it? Or do you need the hustle and bustle of life in the background? If you don’t like silence what is it you don’t like? Being alone with your thoughts? Is there something you are scared to confront or think about?
Try sitting for 2 minutes in silence. Do it when you know you’ll not be interrupted. Set a timer, then close your eyes and notice your thoughts. Are you worrying about something? Or thinking of what you want to do? What comes to mind is this moment of quiet?
Perhaps you like to sit or lie on your bed after work and enjoy the peace and quiet away from your busy day. We all need some peace from time to time. Getting away from it all can give us time to collect our thoughts and regain some calm in our chaotic life. Inject some quiet into your day and enjoy.
Question – live curiously. Are you questioning yourself? Are you unsure of the path you wish to go on? Perhaps you’re rethinking your career choice or relationships or where you live. We always think there is only one answer which is correct, but realistically there are so many options available to you. Explore to see what path is right for you. People change career, it’s doable you just need to take the steps to make it easier for you to transition. Ask yourself as many questions as you need to and don’t worry if you find your next step is not for you, at least you’ve tried and ruled that option out.
Quit – what do you need to quit to help you feel better both mentally and physically. Perhaps you speak harshly to yourself. Quit. Change those words to positive phrases and be kind to you. Stick positive post it notes around the house and read them allowed when you see them. What about smoking, drugs or drinking? Do you need to reassess your lifestyle choices? Perhaps your stuck and need some help, please speak with your family, friends or your doctor and ask for help. Only you know when you are ready to quit and will take the steps you need to feel better and let go of your excessive or addictive behaviour. It may not be easy but you’ve got to start somewhere. Trust yourself, you can do this. It’s very easy to say quit drinking etc but it’s not easy so please don’t underestimate how challenging it will be for you and your loved ones so get those who are supportive on the journey with you.
The other aspect is knowing when to quit something that isn’t working for you. Is a job making you miserable? Are you coming home in tears or hate getting up in the morning as you know what lies ahead? Sometimes quitting is the best option, but it is very difficult to just walk away as we have financial obligations. So we often have to find a new job before we get to quit. Stay strong as you will get there.
Quirky – stand out and be the individual that you are. Some people may call you weird but does that matter? We all have many quirks which others don’t. That doesn’t make you weird or not normal. It make you unique and you. Stand out and be proud. Life would be pretty boring without all our quirks. Don’t try to fit in, if people can’t accept you for the beautiful person you are, then they don’t deserve your time. Be proud of all things individual and celebrate it.
Quality – spend quality time with yourself and those you love and care about. We all say we never have enough time, but plan out when you can visit those who mean the most to you. We lost a lot of moments during the pandemic to see people and those we love. The opportunity was taken away from us and this year people are certainly making up for lost time. You will never regret quality time with your loved ones.
Thank you for reading, have a lovely week and look after you.
Love Emma xx
You always find the most wonderful words and takes on well-being. These are some of my favourite words now. We often see “quit” and “quirky” as negative and your take shows us a different and much-needed side of them. Thank you, this series is amazing!
