Welcome to the next instalment of my monthly series The A – Z of Positivity. Today we are looking at the letter G. Let’s take a look to see where positivity can take us.
G
Gratitude – If you are having a bad day or need a boost of positivity, think about or write down all the things in your life you are grateful for. It can be anything at all from the shoes on your feet to the gorgeous pet cat or the delicious hot chocolate and marshmallows you had. Thinking about everything you are thankful for will shift your thoughts to a positive place. As you go about your day, think about how many things you do or come across that you are truly grateful to have in your life. Is it your friends and family, your job, the forest or river close to your house, your health, where you live, the stars, the sun, the planets. The list is endless. But how often do you say thank you for all these things, not to anyone in particular, but just putting it out in the universe and saying a silent thank you? Maybe you prefer to keep a gratitude journal to write down what you are thankful for in your life.
Generosity – Giving your time/money/things to others is not only great for your health as it helps to decrease blood pressure, but it makes you and the other person feel good too. Are you generous with your time and pop round to see an elderly neighbour or relative and help them with their housework? Or do you volunteer at a local charity shop once a week? Maybe you regularly donate money to a charity you are passionate about and want to support. It doesn’t matter whether you are generous with your time, money or love, it will always be well received.
Gifted – We are all gifted in our own way. It could be you are an amazing cook, whizzing up a dinner in no time with little thought. Or you like to do DIY and are constantly making something for your home or garden. Are you an artist and like to paint flowers, or get inspiration from your life for what to paint next? Our talents are limitless and even if you think you don’t have any, you do. Reading quickly is a talent, flower pressing is a talent, making your own wine is a talent. The gifts we have can make us lots of money or can be a hobby, doing it when we have spare time and for the enjoyment. They are a positive part of who we are. Be proud of your talents and show them off.
Giggle – Laughter is truly the best medicine. Having a giggle with friends or whilst watching a movie can totally lift your spirits. Who doesn’t love to laugh? There is nothing better than laughing so much you cry. When was the last time you did that? Who or what makes you laugh? Laughter releases endorphins into our blood and we feel great. Feeling flat? There are many short clips available online if you want to laugh, from cats doing silly things to dogs on skateboards. Take a look to see if your favourite comedian is playing near by and spend a few hours laughing your socks off. A good giggle can help reduce tension and stress, sounds ideal to me!
Goat Yoga – If you want some fun and to bring happiness into your life then this will certainly make you smile. It is yoga with a twist. You do yoga, and the goats are free to roam, jumping on your back as you do a down dog and generally making you laugh. A fun and calming experience for all.
Get up & Go – What are you waiting for? Get up and go somewhere. Stop sitting on your sofa or lying in bed. Move, go somewhere new and explore. This will bring enjoyment and a sense of adventure to your day and positivity will shine through. You don’t have to spend any or a lot of money, go to the forest, the coast, the next city or village. Go for a wander and see where you end up.
As you can see from the above there are many positives woven into our everyday lives. Being positive isn’t about being sickly annoying and wearing rose tinted glasses and always being so cheery. It is about noticing and working with what you have and feel, to give you a better mindset, brighten your outlook, and bring more positivity into your world. Join me next month when we look at the letter H in my continuation of the A – Z of Positivity series.
Have a lovely week, look after you and see what positivity you can bring into your life this week.
Love Emma xx
