This weekend I went with a friend to a lavender farm, there is one not too far from where I live. Whilst I have come across it from a distance previously, this was the first time I have visited. Being able to walk amongst the lavender rows and enjoy the scent was an experience we couldn’t pass up.
What could be more perfect for Relaxing Lavender, than time spent in a field or two filled with lavender?
Although it was a cloudy, windy and a bit of a drizzly kind of day, it didn’t stop us from enjoying what it had to offer.
To start, we walked up and down rows of herbs such as peppermint, thyme, sage, lemon balm and oregano and each row had a small bottle of essential oil attached to a board so you could smell the oil the farm produced from the herbs. A nice introduction to the world of aromatherapy for those who may be unfamiliar.
We moved onto the lavender next, rows upon rows of the lovely scented purple plant. Ahhh beautiful.
There were many different kinds of lavender including some young newly planted rows. The rows went on and on and the air was filled with the familiar scent.
As it was on a slope, it was a good walk, and it was lovely to be at the top looking down the rows. With benches scattered at the top, it was a perfect spot to relax amongst the lavender and breath deep.
We were lucky as we got there not too long after opening, and it wasn’t busy at this point, so we captured a lot of photos before many people arrived. We could enjoy it all to ourselves and enjoy the sing song of the birds and the wind rushing through the fields.
After many a photo taken and walking up and down the rows and rows of lavender we took ourselves to the wee shop to look at what we could purchase.

They had about five or six different perfumes containing at least one of the oils from the farm. Their dried lavender was lovely so I bought a bunch of it to put in a room at home. I also bought lavender essential oil. Something I use a lot of and always great to get local lavender oil too.
I have written previously about lavender essential oil, but as a reminder, lets have a look at what it can do for you.
Lavender essential oil has many therapeutic properties. It is an antiseptic, analgesic – helps to reduce pain, anti-inflammatory, anti-depressant, bactericide and a sedative. All this means is, it can be used to treat numerous ailments ranging from burns, headaches, insomnia, muscular pain, acne, insect bites to PMT, depression, anxiety and stress and much more. Don’t forget it is also great for relaxation whether you are at home or away.
Blend the essential oil with a carrier oil such as grapeseed for a relaxing massage. It is great for sore muscles, therefore perfect to use after exercise when your muscles begin to ache. If you suffer from headaches or tension, mix 1 drop of oil with 5ml of a carrier oil and massage onto your temples, or mix with half a teaspoon of Vaseline and do the same.
If you are suffering from stress and want to relax, put up to five drops in a diffuser or oil burner to create a lovely relaxing environment. Sit down or lie down and breath slow and deep to help you feel relaxed and at ease. If you love to have a bath in the evening, put several drops in with your usual products, swirl it around in the bubbles, then sink luxuriously into the water breathing in the aroma.
If you have difficulty sleeping, put two drops onto your pillow or mix with some body lotion and rub onto your arms and chest to help you drift off. Putting some on your feet works wonders too.
Lavender essential oil is one I would never be without. This magical plant has the ability to work with your mind and body to aide in its healing. Lavender essential oil is brilliant for so many things, if you only ever buy one oil, make it this one. It is a great balancing oil too so is good for both mind and body. Visiting the farm acted as a great reminder into the wonderful world of lavender.
If you ever get the opportunity to visit a lavender farm, I would highly recommend it. Our local one did tours around the farm. On the tour they spoke about all the different lavender they were growing, the process of taking the lavender from the field to distillation to create the essential oil. Interesting to hear and makes you appreciate the hard word that goes into it.
Thank you for reading and enjoy the rest of your weekend.
Look after you! Love Emma xx
