Space to Breathe

Space. Do you ever crave your own space? Do you ever just want to be on your own? Space.

Is being alone in an empty room space? Or is being the only one for miles around space?

Space can be defined by people differently. Being outdoors and having a lot of area to move around with no one else for miles is having space. But being in the family home, in a room on your own can also be space.

When you think of space, what comes to mind?

Perhaps you are someone who loves to be with other people all of the time. You love socialising you love the interactions and to you space on your own would be deafening. Whereas for others, being on their own in an open field or a house is most satisfying.

We all view space differently. Five minutes away from everything can be enough time to breathe and move forward. It gives you time to catch your breath and keep going. Given a whole day – wow this can work wonders for your soul.

Imagine spending a whole day on your own. If you were given the space to move and do whatever you wanted. Some people would struggle being on their own as people is what they crave. Whereas, others would do anything to give 60 minutes of pure alone time.

So which camp do you fall into? The five minutes is enough or the whole day would be perfect? Whichever one it is, here are some ideas to help you when you crave space:

Five minutes is enough – I thrive on people

Everything is crazy fun you are having the time of your life but you need to catch a moment. You nip to the loo and just breathe. You notice the colour of the tiles and feel the coolness of the air. It’s a moment just for you. You count to 10 taking a long slow deep breath in between. This is enough to give you a little bit of space and is all you need to bounce back to your usual self.

Maybe you take yourself outside, close the back door and just have a cuppa or a drink, enjoying the fresh air and the moment alone. You hear the birds singing in the distance and you instantly feel your shoulders drop. You know you prefer to be in amongst people so this quick dip outside is more than enough to keep you sane for the rest of the day or night.

Or if you prefer to get space whilst with everyone, you get up to be the life and soul of the party and sing karaoke. Whilst you are in a room full of people the space around you is more than enough to satisfy your distance craving. You are alone in the space created but in a room full of people. Singing your heart out you feel alive and awesome, people are around you but equally you are the focal point and have the stage just for you.

Whilst this may be suitable for some for others they need more time.

A whole day would be awesome

Do you sometimes find people are too much? Whether you have a family and you feel you can’t get away day to day and/or you work with many people and just want time and space on your own. Your ideal of getting some space involves a whole day to yourself. It takes time to organise but you know it will be worth it. An hour just won’t cut it.

You finally have your day to yourself and for you it is about freedom, space and breathing. It doesn’t matter what you do so much as you are on your own and feel alive. Being with people as much as you like them, you find they can easily drain your energy and spirit.

You might plan a whole day for you to do all the things you enjoy, such as quiet activities like reading or painting or even birdwatching. They give you peace and a sense of calm. Spending a day on your own feels like a two week holiday. It is all you need to feel refreshed and ready to go.

It doesn’t matter if you crave a few minutes space and time to yourself or a full day. We all have moments when being on our own gives us a moment to breathe and reset. Grabbing a quick minute here and there can ground us and let us carry on with the rest of our day feeling good and feeling like we can do it.

When you feel the need for space and freedom, ask yourself what does that look like for you? It might be pre planned or it could be spur of the moment. Follow what feels right for you when you need it most.

Thank you for reading, look after you and have a great week.

Love Emma xx
